We had a full room at American Legion Post 166 on Tuesday, October 27, and U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (GA-1) was our keynote speaker. He caught us up on military activity around the area and made a point that a lot of folks here don't stop to think about: how much of the nation's defense runs right through coastal Georgia. Thank you, Congressman, for spending the evening with us.

National champions in the room

Leaders from Glynn Academy's Raider team spoke too. The Raiders came home from Fort Knox as national champions, then finished runner-up at the All-Service Nationals in Molena. That's a lot of early mornings and hard work by a lot of young people, and we're proud of every one of them.

October Cadet of the Month

We also recognized Cadet Annakate Durant as our October Cadet of the Month. Stephanie Treece presented the award. Congratulations, Annakate.

And there's more good news on that front: Brunswick High School's Navy JROTC is joining our Cadet of the Month program, so we'll be recognizing cadets from both schools going forward.

What's next

Our next gathering is the Inaugural Joint Navy & Marine Corps Birthday Celebration on Tuesday, November 10, at 6 p.m. at Post 166, with keynote speaker Vice Adm. Al Konetzni, USN (Ret.). It takes the place of our regular fourth-Tuesday meeting. Guests are always welcome, so bring someone who's never been.
