About

Golden Isles Council,

Navy League of the United States

The Golden Isles Council is a Southeast Georgia chapter of the Navy League of the United States. We are civilians who support the men and women of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine, and their families. The Council held its first meeting in September 2025 and meets monthly on St. Simons Island.

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the support of President Theodore Roosevelt. Today it has councils across the country and overseas. Members are not active-duty personnel; they are citizens who believe a strong maritime force keeps the nation secure and its economy moving.

What we do

  • Support the sea services. We build ties with the commands, cutters and crews in and around the Golden Isles, and with the merchant mariners who call at the Port of Brunswick.

  • Invest in young people. We support local Navy and Marine Corps JROTC cadets and the young people considering service at sea.

  • Inform the community. Our monthly meetings bring in leaders from the military, government and maritime industry to speak about the sea services and why they matter to Georgia.

  • Give back. From holiday shoebox drives for ship crews to recognizing outstanding students and service members, we put our members' time to work where it counts.

Council leadership

  • President: Glenn Cook

  • Secretary: Paul Baker

  • Treasurer: Varenka Bajo
