On September 29, 2026, members of the Golden Isles Council of the Navy League toured the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) at Glynco in Brunswick, the headquarters and main campus of the nation's largest law enforcement training organization.

The visit began at Building 912, home of the FLETC Graduates Memorial and the Glynco Historical Display. The group then toured the Driver and Marine Division, the Firearms Division's virtual training center, Danis City, and the Intermodal Training Center, among other stops. Training venues range from replicated streets and neighborhoods to transportation facilities and advanced simulators. The day concluded with dinner in the campus dining hall.

Training for the federal law enforcement community

FLETC, a component of the Department of Homeland Security, trains officers and agents for more than 90 federal partner organizations and offers select advanced programs to state, local, tribal and international law enforcement. In addition to Glynco, it operates training sites in Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Cheltenham, Maryland. In fiscal year 2024, FLETC graduated 68,087 law enforcement officers and agents from its basic and advanced programs.

A campus with Navy roots

For Navy League members, the site carries special meaning. The FLETC campus was once Naval Air Station Glynco, where Navy airships helped protect coastal shipping during World War II. The historical display in Building 912 traces Glynco's transformation from a wartime naval air station to the headquarters of the nation's largest law enforcement training facility.

The standards behind the badge

FLETC training is designed to build knowledge, judgment, discipline and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Graduation is earned: students can be dismissed for failing required examinations or practical exercises, or for misconduct.

One inscription seen during the visit reflects the role of FLETC's instructors:

"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17)

The Golden Isles Council thanks FLETC leadership, instructors and staff for hosting the visit and for their work preparing the men and women who protect our communities and our nation.
