The Golden Isles Council of the Navy League congratulates retired U.S. Marine Corps General Robert Magnus, a St. Simons Island resident and Council member, on his induction into the 2026 Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame.

General Magnus’s 39-year military career included four deployments with the Landing Force Sixth Fleet and senior assignments in Marine aviation and leadership. He served as Deputy Commander of Marine Forces Pacific, Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources, and ultimately as the 30th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was the last Marine Corps officer who had deployed during the Vietnam War.

His decorations include two Navy Distinguished Service Medals, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Since retiring, General Magnus has continued serving veterans through organizations including the Marine Corps League, Navy League, Disabled American Veterans, the Military Officers Association, Jewish War Veterans, and the VFW.

We are proud to recognize General Magnus for his service to our nation and his continued commitment to veterans and the community.

The 14th Annual Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony and Banquet will be held at noon on Saturday, November 7, at St. Luke Ministry Center in Columbus. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. Reservation information is available at GMVHOF.org.
