November 9 - 12: The Golden Isles Council of the Navy League Golden Isles Council is sponsoring a visit by a C47 Sky Train from the Liberty Foundation. This is the plane that the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division used to jump into Normandy on D-Day. The plane will be at McKinnon Airport from 9 November – 12 November and will be available to tour from 8AM – 4PM. Rides will be available for a $100 cost per seat and can be scheduled by visiting the airport during 9 November - 12 November from 8AM – 4PM. All profits from this event will go to the 2012 Weekend for Wounded Warriors and other wounded warrior projects. Don’t miss this awesome opportunity to relive history and show our children this important piece of our heritage! See under the "Newsletters" tab for fliers and more information. Friday, November 11: The Navy League Golden Isles Council and American Legion Post 66 will be hosting an Oyster Roast and Low Country Boil on Friday, 11 November at American Legion Post 166 at Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons Island. Happy hour will start at 6PM with dinner to follow about 7PM. The C47 Skytrain crew will be there along with Joe Willie Sousa who will be spinning tunes for the dance contest and for your listening pleasure. Tickets will be $30 per person and they can be purchased at the door. Proceeds from this event will benefit the 2012 Weekend for Wounded Warriors. Those attending are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for children (infants – teenagers) to be given to the children of soldiers at the Warrior’s Transition Unit (WTU) who are in long-term rehab recovering from wounds suffered while in combat. These toys will be available for soldiers to choose as gifts for their children in a “Santa Shop” that will be open for soldiers at the WTU on Friday, 2 December during our community sponsored Christmas Party for those soldiers, families, and staff.
